The fullback position has over the years evolved to be one of the most important areas to have players who are highly specialized.
Whether it is a very attacking wing back like Trent Alexander Arnold, or a more defensive type like Aaron Wan Bissaka, it is crucial to find players who will suit your system and offer the balance that your team needs.
As FM23 is still fresh on our shelves, we have rounded up the best right backs you can sign up at the start of the save. They will sadly not come cheap, however, with some great timing, you might get one or two towards the end of their contracts at a bargain.

1. Reece James
At 22 years old, he is already one of if not the best right back in the world. His numbers all around the pitch are spectacular, he makes runs both defensively and offensively throughout the game.
But after signing a long-term contract at Chelsea already, you will need a sizeable transfer fee to convince the London-based club to sell their prized academy graduate, who after a successful loan spell at Wigan, has turned out to be a force to be reckoned with in the attacking wing back role.
2. Trent Alexander Arnold
TAA may not be the most defensive-minded full-back in the world, but does it really matter when he’s just so good going forward?
Whether it is crosses or free kicks, the money you pay for this money will be recouped in vital assists alone.
His technical stats are one of the best in the game, rivalling those of the best mezzalas and advanced playmakers in FM23.
To make things even better, he still has almost a decade still to play at the very top level.
He sadly won’t be cheap to convince to move away from Merseyside, but that is expected of a player of his talent.
3. Joao Cancelo
Able to play both left back and right back at a world-class level, Cancelo is a player that you need to sign if the opportunity arises.
He is at arguably the best side in world football right now, but plans could change in the future, and you shouldn’t hesitate to snap up this Portuguese sensation.
Although he is older than Trent and James, he still has more than five years at the top level, which is more than enough time to have your scouting system up and ready to unearth the best regens in the game.
4. Archraf Hakimi
A familiar name to many FM managers, Hakimi has been featured in numerous wonder kids lists over the past four or five years.
Now at his peak in PSG, he is one of the very best right backs you can get in FM23 at the start of the save.
He is incredibly fast, and very solid physically, a good recipe for an overlapping wing back who can dominate an entire flank on his own, or with an inside forward ahead of him.
5. Ricardo Pereira
An outside shout who is more than capable of making an impact in your team, Leicester City right-back Ricardo Pereira is a man you should be scouting.
Sharp and dangerous moving forward, but cool and collected at the back, Pereira is a player that could slip under the radar this year.
He will also not cost as much as the other names on this list who are playing for the top sides in Europe.
6. Noussair Mazraoui
Recently moving to Bayern Munich and set to take the footballing world by storm, Mazraoui is a terrific young talent with all the credentials to become a superstar.
He may be young and inexperienced, but keeping a close eye on this man’s career could see you snap up a world-beater in a few years’ time.
7. Denzel Dumfries
The Dutch starter is quick, strong and brilliant with the ball on his feet, the Inter Milan superstar would be worth every penny.
He is still only 26 years old, and very much entering his prime years. Plying his trade in the Serie A, he will not cost as much as Cancelo or James, but he will still command a high fee.
Furthermore, he has the ability to play different roles, offering you some versatility should you wish him to cover for a player that is out injured.
8. Tino Livramento
At the age of only 19, and already a season in the English Premier League under his belt, Livramento is at the cusp of being a certified wonderkid.
Formerly of Chelsea, the Southampton attacking wing back already has some very decent stats at the start of the game, and he will only get better.
Being English, and already a starter at an established Premier League side, he will cost a fortune, but it will be money very well spent.
He is very much an attacking wing back, but he can also be trusted further forward to play as a wide midfielder on the right.
Finally, there are still countless other right backs in the game who can make a difference in your FM23 save, including Diego Dalot at Manchester United who has had a recent resurgence and Max Aarons of Norwich.
